Subbase

Definition: Subbase

Let $(X,\tau )$ be a topological space.

A nonempty collection $\mathcal{S}$ of subsets of $X$ is a subbase for $(X,\tau )$ iff the collection of all intersections of finite subsets of $\mathcal{S}$ forms a base for $(X,\tau )$.
